- Pune Metro is a mass rapid transit system serving the city of Pune, India.
- On 15 August 2008, the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was initiated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and submitted its report.
- In 2010, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) delayed submitting the proposal to the Union government to make provisions in the annual budget for the project.
- The initial project consisting of two lines was approved by the State in June 2012.
- On 7 December 2016, almost 4.5 year lether Pune Metro received the final approval of Central Government.
- Indian PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone on 24 December 2016.
- PMRDA approved New Line 3 (Hinjawadi Phase-I, II, III - Shivajinagar) on 29 December 2016.
- MahaMetro expects to complete the project in 2021.
- Finally Pune Metro purple (7 km (4.3 mi)) and aqua (5 km (3.1 mi)) lines became operational in March 2022.
Pune Metro Network Expansion Plan: Phase II
The Pune Metro has begun preparations for its second phase, which will expand various important routes. The major routes included in this phase include Khadakvasla to Kharadi (25.862 km), Paudphata to Manikbagh via Warje (6.118 km), Vanaj to Chandni Chowk (1.112 km), and Ramwadi to Wagholi (11.633 km). These routes have been approved by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Now the detailed project report (DPR) has been sent to the state and central government for approval. This expansion will connect various areas of Pune city to the metro network, which will help in reducing traffic problems.

- The Pune Metro is a mass rapid transit system serving the city of Pune, India. The system consists of 3 lines with a total length of 54.58 km.
- The 16.59-km purple line runs from PCMC Bhavan to Swargate, the aqua line runs from Vanaz to Ramwadi covering a distance of 14.66 km.
- The 23.33-km yellow line will run from the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi via Balewadi to Civil Court.
- All three lines will align at the Civil Court interchange station.
- The foundation stone (December 2016) and inauguration of operations (March 2022) for the purple and aqua line was laid by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi.
- Each train will have 3 coaches, and will run at the speed of 33 km/h with the frequency of 30 min.
- Out of total 3 lines 2 lines which consists 30 stations will be operated by MahaMetro and 1 line which will consists 23 stations by PMRDA.
- An integrated fare system has also been planned to facilitate seamless transfer, however, exact fares for the same travel distance will vary based on the operator between Rs.10 - Rs.50.

Pune Metro News & Updates
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the expansion of the Pune Metro Rail Project under Phase 2. The approved project includes the construction of Line 4 and its associated spur Line 4A. The approved Line 4 is 25.52 km long and connects Kharadi to Khadakwasla via Hadapsar and Swargate through 22 elevated stations. Spur Line 4A will cover an additional 6.12 km between Nal Stop and Warje-Manik Baug, with six elevated stations. In total, the two corridors will be 31.64 km long and have 28 stations.
◷ 2025-12-03 | ☍ Metro Rail NewsThe Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an investment of Rs 9,857.85 crore for the Pune Metro Phase 2 project, which will add 31.64 km of new corridors across two lines with 28 elevated stations. Lines 4 and 4A in Pune Metro Phase 2 will take the city's approved metro rail network beyond 100 km, and connect major IT hubs, commercial areas, educational institutions and dense residential areas in east, south and west Pune.

◷ 2025-09-23 | ☍ Hindustan timesColossus Infra Projects has received the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Maha-Metro (Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited) to provide train operation and station control services for the Pune Metro Rail Project. The financial bids were opened on 7 November 2024, while the financial evaluation took place on 8 September 2025, which revealed that Colossus Infra Projects is the lowest bidder for this contract. On 9 September 2025, Colossus Infra Projects received the LoA from Maha-Metro for this contract.

𝒜. According to rules notified by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) recently, only one bag weighing up to 25 kg will be allowed and baggage in the form of bundles will not be permitted inside metro trains.
