- The Hyderabad Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
- The Hyderabad Metro Rail Project was approved by the Union government in 2003.
- The Union Ministry of Urban Development appointed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to conduct a survey of the proposed lines.
- In August 2003, the state government and South Central Railway jointly launched the Hyderabad Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) for construction work.

Hyderabad Metro Network Expansion Plan in Phase II and Phase III
The Telangana government approved the proposed second phase expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) on January 29, 2024. The phase will cover a distance of 76.4 km in five corridors and have 54 metro stations. The estimated cost of Phase 2 is ₹24,269 crore and construction work is expected to begin in January 2025.
The major routes in this expansion include a 26-km-long wooden bridge route from BHEL, which will have 23 stations. Apart from this, a 5-km extension from Nagole to LB Nagar, a 14-km route from Miyapur to Patancheru, and a 31-km-long airport link, which will provide direct connectivity from Reddyburg to Shamshabad airport. Most of the corridors under Phase 2 will be elevated and are planned to be operational by 2030.
Phase III will extend metro services to the northern part of Hyderabad, including Medchal, Keesara and Alwal. It will also cover Uppal to Yadagirigutta.

- The base fare is Rs. 10 for up to 2 km, and the maximum fare is Rs. 60 for distances exceeding 26 km. A 10% discount is offered on all trips made using a smart card.

- The Hyderabad Metro Rail operates from 06:30 hrs to 23:00 hrs on weekdays and weekends from all terminal stations.

Hyderabad Metro News & Updates
Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) on Sunday, January 19 announced the route map for the second phase of the metro extension. This new route will connect Miyapur to Patancheru, covering a distance of 13.4 km and includes ten proposed stations including Patancheru, Miyapur, Alwyn X Road, Madinaguda, Chanda Nagar, Jyothi Nagar, BHEL, RC Puram and Beeramguda. However, these station names are tentative and are subject to change.

Medchal Metro Sadhana Samiti demanded that the new government fulfill their wish. In fact, the previous government had thought that Kompally, Boinapalli, Medchal, Quthbullapur, Alwal, Shameerpet Bolaram areas would be given priority in the second phase of expansion, but it was disappointed.

Ramakrishnan, head investor relations at Larsen & Toubro Ltd. during its financial results for the quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2023. Despite the overall improvement in average metro ridership from 3.94 lakh passengers per day in Q3 last year to 4.44 lakh passengers per day in Q3FY24, Ramakrishnan revealed that the average ridership in the previous quarter of the current year was 4.62 lakh passengers per day. Keolis is a French company currently operating in 15 countries, offering a full range of transport solutions to meet the needs of local authorities and passengers.
𝒜. Arms and ammunition are not allowed inside the Metro. However, if you have a licensed gun, you may carry it only after presenting the license at the security checks at the station entry. It is recommended passengers avoid carrying firearms into Metro premises for everyone's safety.
𝒜. Hyderabad Metro does not differentiate its passengers by class. All coaches are equally equipped and furnished.
𝒜. Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside Metro stations and onboard Metro coaches.
𝒜. There are no ticket checkers onboard the trains. The fare is automatically verified at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates before entering the paid area. However, revenue protection patrols may conduct random checks inside trains from time to time.
𝒜. If you decide not to travel and exit the same station you entered, the base fare will be deducted from your smart card. If you are traveling with a token, there will be no refund of the amount.
𝒜. Passengers may carry only foldable bicycles into the Metro system during non-peak hours. The bicycles must pass through the X-ray machines to be permitted. The station security team reserves the right to deny entry for bicycles in case of crowding at stations or trains.
𝒜. Emergency buttons on the platform can be activated by passengers to alert train operators, who can immediately stop the train and take necessary rescue actions. Misuse of this feature is a punishable offense and attracts a penalty.
