Lucknow Metro — History, Facts & Expansion Plan
- Lucknow Metro is a mass rapid transit (MRT) system in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.
- The original design of the metro project included one north-south corridor and one east-west corridor, with links through Gomti Nagar.
- In September 2008, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) submitted a concept paper after the Lucknow Metro Rail Project was proposed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, headed by Chief Minister Mayawati.
- In February 2009, an agreement was signed between DMRC and the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA).
- In June 2013, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and the state cabinet gave clearance and approval for the creation of the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC).
- In August 2013, the Government of Uttar Pradesh approved the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by DMRC.
- The construction phase of Lucknow Metro began in December 2013.
- In March 2014, the foundation stone for the Lucknow Metro project was laid by the state government.
- On 27 September 2014, construction of the Lucknow Metro Red Line commenced.
- On 22 December 2015, the Union Cabinet approved the construction of Rail Project Phase-1A.
- By 18 September 2016, 90% of the work on Rail Project Phase-1A had been completed.
- On 8 March 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the full stretch of the Red Line of Lucknow Metro.

Lucknow Metro Network Expansion Plan: Phase I
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the construction of the 11.165 km long East-West Corridor connecting Charbagh to Vasant Kunj of the Lucknow Metro, known as the Blue Line or Phase 1B. The corridor will have a total of 12 stations, including seven underground and five elevated stations. The project is expected to be operational by June 30, 2027.
Additionally, the existing Red Line is also being extended. On one side, the line will go from CCR Airport to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SJPGI), while on the other side it will extend from Munshipulia to National Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
