Indore Metro is a forthcoming MRTS for Indore, the biggest city in Madhya Pradesh, being constructed by MPMRCL. Its master plan, developed by Rohit Associates Cities & Rails Pvt. Ltd, envisions 4 metro lines & 2 spurs covering 94 kms in total. Phase 1 will focus on implementing the Yellow Line (Line-3), a circular route.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase 1 of the Indore Metro, consisting of 33.53 km of routes, received approval from the state government in December 2016 and the Central Government's cabinet in October 2018. However, the completion and opening of Indore Metro's Priority Corridor, originally set for August 2023, are now anticipated to take place in August 2024, exceeding the initial deadline. The entire Phase 1 project is projected to conclude in 2024.
The initial funding plan for the project involved an official development assistance (ODA) loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). However, the project's funding has now shifted, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and New Development Bank (NDB) will provide the necessary funds. The exact amount from ADB remains undisclosed, while NDB will contribute $225 million. In September 2019, the state's Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for Phase 1 of the project.
Indore Metro Construction work:The construction work of Indore Metro will be completed in 2024 in one phase, which includes only one Yellow Line (Bhavarsla Chauraha to Super Corridor 1).
The construction of an 11 km viaduct for Phase I ring-line (totaling 31 km) has commenced, with the laying of the foundation stone. Additionally, the proposed construction of 16 metro stations, valued at Rs. 1,417 crores, is underway. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has been awarded both contracts. The bidding process for the Metro Depot at Gandhinagar has seen participation from 16 firms. The ongoing debate surrounding the relocation of the Indore metro project to Seismic zone-IV continues, with allegations of favoritism towards certain business houses. These contentions highlight potential fault lines and the government's potential loss of revenue in the future.
Indore Metro Fares (Ticket Prices)The fare structure, prices, and rules for Indore Metro have yet to be announced. They will be finalized nearer to the commencement of commercial operations. MPMRCL intends to employ advanced technologies in its automatic fare collection (AFC) system, enabling QR codes and Near Field Communication (NFC) phones to utilize the system.
