Red Line History, Facts & Expansion

  • Lucknow Metro Line 1, also known as North–South Corridor, is a rapid transit line of Lucknow Metro.
  • This line connects Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in the south to Munshi Pulia in the north, covering a distance of approximately 22.87 kilometres.
  • Line 1 has a total of 21 stations, including Transport Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Alambagh, Hazratganj and Charbagh.
  • Lucknow Metro Line 1 was inaugurated on September 5, 2017 by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.
  • The line initially operated with Alstom Metropolis trains, which are air-conditioned and designed for rapid transit systems.
  • Lucknow Metro train has four coaches and its maximum speed is 90 km/hr.
  • During peak hours, the metro service operates at a remarkably low speed, with trains available every 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

Lucknow Metro Red Line Extension in Phase I

The Uttar Pradesh government is working on a plan to extend the Red Line of the Lucknow Metro. On one side, the line will extend from CCS Airport to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), and on the other side, it will run from Munshipulia to Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow. After completion, the corridor will cover a total distance of 23 km, connecting Amausi Airport to Munshipulia. The extension will include 22 stations, of which 19 will be elevated and 3 underground.
