The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) has invited tenders for civil contracts for Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro. The contract includes the design and construction of the main line elevated viaduct from Thakurganj Metro Station to Vasant Kunj Metro Station (approximately 4.6 km in length including the station), including the construction of ramps (approximately 740.00 m) connecting the viaduct and the entry/exit points of the depot, and the construction of five elevated metro stations, namely Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, and Vasant Kunj. This includes civil works, associated ancillary structures, PEB structures, architectural works, water supply, sanitation, drainage, external development, fire fighting, and repair and maintenance work. This work will be carried out under Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

A metro train traveling from Munshi Pulia to the airport in Lucknow experienced a sudden brake failure. This caused panic among the passengers on board. Upon receiving the information, the metro's technical team arrived at the scene and, after about 15 minutes of effort, manually released the jammed brakes. According to metro officials, the brakes jammed due to a technical problem. The metro service was disrupted for 15 minutes as a result. During this time, other metro services were diverted to different platforms.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has announced an ambitious plan to develop a massive 1,575-kilometer metro network across Uttar Pradesh by 2047. UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar unveiled the comprehensive blueprint during the "Developed Uttar Pradesh for Developed India @ 2047" seminar. The initial phase will focus on expanding the metro system in the state's three established metro cities, with 225 kilometers planned for Lucknow, 200 kilometers for Kanpur, and 100 kilometers for Agra. Additionally, the plan proposes a 150-kilometer network each in Noida-Greater Noida, Varanasi, and Prayagraj. 50 kilometers of metro network are planned in key districts such as Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, and Meerut. Approximately 790 kilometers of this metro infrastructure is targeted to be completed by 2035. Emphasizing the project's financial viability, Kumar stated that the state government's annual contribution for the initial 525 kilometers of expansion will be ₹1,040 crore.

The proposed East-West Metro corridor from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, part of Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro project, is gaining new momentum, with significant land parcels in the congested hinterland of old Lucknow set to be cleared. Construction on this long-awaited corridor is set to begin next year, transforming transportation planning on some of the city's most space-constrained roads.

After the Lucknow Metro Phase 1B received the approval of the Central Government, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has issued a tender for the appointment of a detailed design consultant for the project. The contractor will provide consultancy services for civil, architectural, E&M and traction works for the Lucknow Metro Phase-1B project.
