Surat Metro Red Line Overview
The Red Line (Line 1) of Surat Metro is an under-construction corridor of about 21.6 km from Sarthana to DREAM City with 20 stations, including an underground section through the old city near Surat railway station. Trial runs began in 2026 on the elevated DREAM City-Althan Tenement stretch, which is targeted to open first. The full line is expected by December 2027. Red Line History, Facts & Expansion
- The Red Line is Surat Metro Line 1, from Sarthana to DREAM City.
- It is about 21.6 km long with 20 stations, of which about 6.5 km is underground.
- The project is being built by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC).
- Trial runs began in 2026 on the roughly 8.5 km DREAM City-Althan Tenement elevated section.
- The DREAM City-Althan Tenement section is targeted to open first, with the full line expected by December 2027.
- It will interchange with the Green Line in central Surat.
- Surat Metro Phase 1 covers about 40 km across two lines.
- Surat railway station will be served by an underground station.
- Trains will be 3-coach sets.
- GMRC is also building the Ahmedabad Metro.
