It is an elevated southern terminal metro station on the north–south corridor of the Blue Line of the Chennai Metro system. The station serves Chennai International Airport and the neighborhoods of Meenambakkam, Tirusulam, Pallavaram, Pammal, Kundrathur and Tambaram. This station is the only elevated airport metro station in India.
