Red Line History, Facts & Expansion
- The Guwahati Metro, also known as the Guwahati Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), is currently under construction in the city of Guwahati, Assam, India.
- The project is being implemented by the state-run Guwahati Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL).
- The first phase of the Guwahati Metro project consists of four corridors: Corridor 1 (Dharapur – Narangi), Corridor 2 (MG Road – Khanapara), Corridor 3 (Jalukbari – Khanapara), and Corridor 4 (ISBT – Paltan Bazar).
- In the initial phase, Guwahati Metro aims to cover a total distance of 61.4 km.
- Feasibility report and detailed project report (DPR) were prepared by RITES in January 2016.
- The project was approved by the state government of Assam, and the formation of Guwahati Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) was launched in February 2016.
- The Red Line extends for approximately 22.6 km.
- There will be a total of 22 stations on the Red Line, all of which will be elevated.
