About Kanaka Durga Temple

Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada is the famous Kanaka Durga temple situated on the banks of river Krishna above Indrakeeladri. Dedicated to Durga, the goddess of wealth, this temple was built by Arjuna. The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Mahishasurmardini, an incarnation of Goddess Durga and the eight-armed deity is believed to be self-manifested or self-manifested. It is one of the 108 Shaktipeeths in the country.

The temple has a 4 feet tall idol of the goddess, which is adorned with ornaments and flowers. The temple of Kanaka Durga is filled with lakhs of pilgrims for worship during the "Navratri" festival, which is celebrated with religious fervor, pomp and festivities.

Architecture of Kanaka Durga Temple

The temple is comprised of Dravidian architecture. The main sanctum sanctorum is constructed in the form of a pyramid and the surface is decorated with delicate stone carvings. The idol of Durga Maa located in the temple is made of gold which looks very divine.

  3. It attracts many pilgrims and tourists especially during the festivals of Navratri and Dussehra.
  4. Kanak Durga Temple is a famous Hindu temple which is described in Vedic literature like Kalika Purana, Durga Spatashati etc.
  5. Kanak is gold in Sanskrit because the idol is of golden color and is adorned with gold ornaments, hence it got the name Kanaka Durga.
