About Prakasam Barrage
Prakasam Barrage is existing on the Krishna River whose construction was completed in the year 1852-1855. The barrage was constructed to facilitate irrigation of large tracts of agricultural land and is one of the first major irrigation projects undertaken in South India. Prakasam Barrage has three canals that run through the city of Vijayawada, giving it a different view. Apart from irrigating vast tracts of agricultural land, the dam provides a spectacular view of the lake and has become a major tourist attraction of Vijayawada.

Prakasam Barrage was designed by Sir Arthur Cotton and built by Capt. Orr. Prakasam Barrage has a length of 1223.5 meters and was built to irrigate 5.8 lakh acres of Ayakat.
