Purple Line History, Facts & Expansion

  • The Purple Line of the Pune Metro is part of the city's rapid transit system. It runs from PCMC Bhawan to Swargate.
  • The Purple Line of Ahmedabad Metro began its operations on 6 March 2022 and the line is being opened gradually in phases.
  • The Purple Line consists of 11 active and 3 inactive stations, connecting various important places in Pune.
  • Of these, five stations are underground, covering a distance of approximately six km, while nine stations are elevated, covering a distance of approximately 16.59 km.
  • Currently, the first seven km of the line is operational, with five stations from PCMC to Phugewadi.
  • The metro service is open to the public on all days from 8 am to 9 pm.
  • The Purple Line uses the Alstom Urbalis 400 communications-based train control (CBTC) signaling system.
  • Further extensions and phases of the Purple Line are planned to expand the coverage of the metro network to more parts of Ahmedabad in the coming years.

Pune Metro Purple Line Extension in Phase 2

The Purple Line of the Pune Metro is being extended in the second phase. The length of this extension will be around 5.46 km and will be known as Line 1B. There will be three major stations on this route, including Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj, and all these stations are planned to be completely underground. The project is targeted to be completed by February 2027.
