Pune Metro Purple Line Extension in Phase 2
The Purple Line of the Pune Metro is being extended in the second phase. The length of this extension will be around 5.46 km and will be known as Line 1B. There will be three major stations on this route, including Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj, and all these stations are planned to be completely underground. The project is targeted to be completed by February 2029.

The standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to build a new station on the proposed Metro Line 1 between Swargate and Katraj. The station will be located at Balajinagar, which is expected to have a high number of passengers. The metro extension is 5.463 km long and previously included three underground stations: Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. Adding the Balajinagar station will reduce the distance between stations by 1 to 1.5 km, making the project compliant with metro standards.

The project is being executed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL). So far, 60% of the work has been completed. This metro line will be 23.2 km long, consisting of 923 pillars and 23 stations.
