The second phase of the Pune Metro proposes approximately 22 kilometers of integrated double-decker flyovers as part of the city-wide expansion project, covering key routes such as Ramwadi-Wagholi, Vanaz-Chandni Chowk, Kharadi-Khadakwasla, and Bhairoba Nala-Akashwani. Officials said the final station design and alignment may change after discussions with agencies such as the Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, and National Highways Authority of India. Pune Metro officials stated that the viaduct work will be completed before station construction begins. Executive Director Atul Gadgil stated that the Phase 2 DPR already includes double-decker corridors, while PMC Engineer Dinkar Gojare stated that the state government is positive about supporting the construction of new flyovers in the Hadapsar area.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that the third corridor of the Pune Metro, which will connect Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, will become operational in May. Inaugurating the Metro Bhavan on Sunday, the Chief Minister also announced his government's plans to expand the metro network in Pune to 200 kilometres. Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the state government is planning to extend the metro network to the proposed Purandar airport and said that this will greatly benefit the city.
The Pune Metro has implemented a new rule that will change the way passengers pass through ticket gates at all stations. The move aims to improve crowd management and curb ticketless travel. Officials say it will make entry and exit points more streamlined and organized.
The Maharashtra government has granted revised administrative approval for two major metro corridors in Pune – the Kharadi-Swargate-Khadakwasla line and the Nal Stop-Warje route – in line with the earlier approval received from the central government. The 31.6-km project will include 28 elevated stations and is estimated to cost ₹9,857.85 crore.
Trial runs on Pune Metro Line 3 from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar have been successfully completed in both directions, bringing the project one step closer to commercial operations, which will likely begin by the end of March. Meanwhile, the flyovers from Shivajinagar to Baner and Baner to Shivajinagar will open to the public next week.
