The tomb is dedicated to Sikandar Lodi, the second ruler of the Lodi dynasty, who ruled the Delhi Sultanate in the late 15th century. He ruled from 1489 to 1517. The tomb is the first garden tomb in the Indian subcontinent and the oldest surviving closed garden tomb in India.
