Line 1 History, Facts & Expansion

The Navi Mumbai Metro's Line 1 is an integral part of the city's rapid transit rail system, located in Navi Mumbai, India.
Upon completion, this fully-elevated line will stretch over 23.40 km and encompass 20 metro stations connecting Belapur to Khandeshwar.
Construction commenced in 2011 with an initial scheduled opening in 2016, but various delays were encountered during the process.
Phase 1 of the line, covering an 11.1 km (6.9 mi) stretch from Belapur to Pendhar, featuring 11 stations, was officially inaugurated on 17 November 2023.
In September 2013, CIDCO put forth a proposal to extend Line 1, expanding it up to Kalyan–Ulhasnagar–Murbad.
The development of Line 1 is divided into three phases, with Phase I consisting of the 11.1 km (6.9 mi) section from Belapur to Pendhar, encompassing 11 stations.
Phase II involves the construction of an 8.15-kilometre (5.06 mi) line connecting Khandeshwar to Taloje MIDC, featuring seven stations.
For the third phase, there are plans to merge two rail corridors between Pendhar and MIDC, incorporating a 2.2-kilometre (1.4 mi) link, creating a loop from Belapur to Khandeshwar.

Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 Extension Plan in Phase 2 and Phase 3

Line 1 is being developed in three phases. Phase 1 is an 11.1 km stretch from Belapur to Pendhar with 11 stations. In the second phase, an 8.15 km line will be built from Khandeshwar to Taloje MIDC, with seven stations.

The third phase will merge the two rail corridors with a 2.2 km link between Pendhar and MIDC, creating a loop from Belapur to Khandeshwar. The timeline for this phase has not been decided yet.
