Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission were established in 1897 by Swami Vivekananda, a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. Inspired by his guru's teachings and spirituality, Swami Vivekananda envisioned an organization that would serve humanity in all aspects. The name of the organization pays homage to both Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.The primary goal of Ramakrishna Math and Mission is to promote spiritual values, self-realization and service to humanity. It operates educational institutions, hospitals, relief and rehabilitation efforts and hosts spiritual and cultural events. Swami Vivekananda believed that service to the poor and needy was the highest form of worship and this philosophy underpins the activities of the organization.

Architecture of Ramakrishna Math

Ramakrishna Math centers usually have beautifully designed temples and meditation halls. The architecture is a blend of Indian and modern design elements, creating a serene and contemplative space for visitors. Many centers have exquisite sculptures, gardens and spiritual symbols, creating an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. The temple is built of marble, a favorite of the Mughal architect Emperor Shah Jahan. Marble has been obtained especially from the mines of Bundi and Makrana. To add an element of contrast, the style pioneered by the Mughals (using red sandstone with marble) has been adopted in this temple.
