About Shila Devi Temple

Shila Devi Temple is a temple located in the Amer Palace in Jaipur city of Rajasthan state, India. The temple has a rich and interesting history that dates back to the reign of Maharaja Man Singh I in the 16th century. The temple was built to house the idol of Goddess Shila Devi, which is believed to have been brought from Jessore in Bangladesh to Amber (now part of Jaipur).

The story goes that Maharaja Man Singh I, while returning from a successful military campaign, had a dream in which Goddess Shila Devi instructed him to build a temple in his honour. After this divine vision, he built the Shila Devi Temple within the majestic Amer Fort. For centuries, this temple has been a center of reverence for the local people and a place of reverence for devotees from far and wide. It reflects the religious and cultural richness of Rajasthan and symbolizes the deep faith of the people.
