Interesting facts about Kochi Metro Line 1 line
- Phase I of the Kochi Metro consists of a single line, which was first operationalized on June 17, 2017. Also known as Aluva-Palarivattom-Cochin Shipyard section
- This line covers a distance of 25.612 kilometers from Aluva to Pettah. It has a total of 22 stations, including major stops like Edappally, Kaloor, MG Road and Cochin University.
- The line consists of both elevated and underground sections. The underground extension between Maharaja's College and Ernakulam South stations is about 1 kilometer long.
- Under Phase I, the line is being extended beyond Pettah to Tripunithura Terminal, and the extension will add three stations and about 1.1 km length.
Kochi Metro Line 1 extension in Phase 2The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has proposed to extend the Blue Line to Cochin International Airport and Infopark, the city's IT hub. The extension to the airport is planned to start from Aluva, follow National Highway-544 to Alina Valavu near Akaparambu, then to the airport via Kariyad-Airport-Mattur Road. After this, it will continue along Angamaly-Airport Road to MC Road and eventually extend to Angamaly. The extension is expected to cover a distance of about 15 km and add five new stations.
Similarly, the extension towards Infopark will stretch for about 10 km, adding three new stations. Construction work for the airport extension is estimated to begin in 2024, with a target to complete it by 2026. Construction of the Infopark extension is planned to begin in 2025 and be completed by 2027.

Industries Minister P. Rajeev flagged off Kochi Metro's electric feeder buses Metro Connect. Of the 15 buses, four will ply on the Aluva-Airport route, running every 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours from 6:45 am to 11 pm. The fare for a journey up to 5 km in regular AC feeder buses is ₹20, while the same buses with relatively larger seats will cost ₹80 for travelling in the longer Aluva-International Airport corridor.
