Orange Line History, Facts & Expansion

Kolkata Metro Line 6, also known as New Garia Airport Metro Link, is a rapid transit line of Kolkata.
Line 6 connects New Garia in the southern part of Kolkata to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in the north. It passes through many important places like VIP Road, Ultadanga and Salt Lake.
The total length of Kolkata Metro Line 6 is approximately 31.36 kilometers.
The line has a total of 24 stations, providing connectivity to various residential, commercial and educational centres.
Line 6 has interchange stations with other metro lines, providing seamless connectivity to passengers.
It currently operates between poets Subhash and Hemant Mukhopadhyay.
On 6 March 2024, the Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section was inaugurated, completing the 5.4 km Phase 1 section.

Kolkata Metro Orange Line Extension in Phase II

There are plans to extend this line further north from the airport to Michael Ngor and eventually reach Barasat, although this portion is estimated to be completed by the 2030s.
