Interesting facts about Kolkata Metro Purple line
- Kolkata Metro Line 3, also known as Joka-Esplanade Metro, is an upcoming metro line that will significantly expand Kolkata's metro network.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Joka-Tartala section, including Joka metro station, of the Purple Line of the Kolkata Metro on 30 December 2022.

Kolkata Metro Purple Line Extension in Phase II
The Kolkata Metro Purple Line extension is expected to be completed by late 2028 or early 2029. The line will connect the Blue Line at Park Street in central Kolkata and run parallel to the Blue Line till Esplanade, where it will also connect with the Green Line. About 8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) of the project will be elevated and the remaining 6.32 kilometres (3.93 mi) will be underground.

Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRCL) conducted the first successful trial run through the westbound tunnel of the Kolkata Metro's Green Line in West Bengal, India, on the Sealdah-Esplanade section, which has only one station, Bowbazar. Once operational, the Sealdah-Esplanade section is expected to provide an advanced transport system for the people of Kolkata and its suburbs. It helps people to reach Kolkata and surrounding areas from Sealdah and Howrah.
◷ 2025-01-22 | ☍ Hindustan SamacharCommunication-based train control signalling work for the entire Howrah Maidan to Sector V section of Kolkata Metro's East-West Metro began on 12 January 2025, a landmark step towards connecting Howrah to Sealdah, two of the busiest stations of Eastern Railway. The East-West Metro, also known as the Green Line, will save around 90 minutes for daily commuters.

The last train from New Garia to Dum Dum (Blue Line) will run at 11 pm instead of 10 pm to facilitate people travelling towards Park Street. The last train from Dakshineswar will leave for New Garia at 10.53 pm. Services will run at an interval of 7 minutes from 3 pm to 8 pm. On December 25, the Metro will operate a total of 224 services (112 up and 112 down) throughout the day, starting at 6.50 am.
