Tomb of Imam Zamin, Delhi

The Tomb of Imam Zamin is a 16th-century mausoleum located in Mehrauli, Delhi, built in 1537–38 CE by Imam Muhammad Ali, a Sufi cleric from Turkestan who served as the imam of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque near the Qutb Minar. Constructed during the reign of Mughal emperor Humayun, it was the last addition to the Qutb Minar complex. The tomb measures about 7.3 meters square and holds cultural and religious significance as a Sufi memorial within this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its main features include a sandstone dome, intricately carved jaali screens, and marble decorations, showing influences from the Lodhi architectural style. Today, the tomb attracts tourists, historians, and architecture enthusiasts, offering insight into Delhi’s layered Mughal and pre-Mughal history.

The Tomb of Imam Zamin shows late Lodi-style architecture with early Mughal influences. Built in the early 16th century under the Lodi dynasty, it represents a transition from simple medieval designs to more decorative features. The tomb is made mainly of red sandstone and includes carved floral patterns and detailed stonework, showcasing the skilled craftsmanship of the period. Its design focuses on symmetry and a raised platform, which was typical of tombs built during that era.
