Orange Line History, Facts & Expansion

  • The Bhopal Metro Orange Line is first inaugurated Metro Line in Bhopal Metro.
  • The Bhopal Metro Orange line has total 16 metro stations from Karond Chauraha to AIIMS, covering a total distance of 14.99 km.
  • The priority corridor of Orange line of the metro covering eight elevated stations from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, Bhopal.
  • Bhopal has become the second city in the State after Indore and 26th city in India to have metro connectivity.
  • The project includes two lines covering a distance of 30.8 kilometres and a depot. While the Orange line will cover 16.74 kilometres, the Blue line will run on a 14.16-km stretch.
  • As per a government statement, the estimated cost of the entire project is Rs10,033 crore whereas the priority corridor has cost Rs2,225 crore.

Bhoj Metro Orange Line Extension in Phase II

The Bhoj Metro Orange Line extension in Bhopal is part of Phase II, stretching from Karond Circle to AIIMS with 16 stations. It aims to connect major areas of the city. A priority section (from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS) is expected to be operational soon, although there are some delays. The total planned length of the entire line is approximately 14.99 km. This extension is under the management of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), which aims to improve Bhopal's rapid transit system. Plans include both elevated and underground sections.
