The Kolkata Metro plans to run over 270 train services on Monday, January 26. The move is aimed at facilitating commuters in reaching their destinations, as several restrictions on road traffic are in place due to the Republic Day 2026 celebrations.
◷ 2026-01-25 | ☍ Indian ExpressThe Kolkata Metro Railway has launched the QR code-enabled return ticket facility for passengers on all its corridors. Passengers availing this facility will no longer need to purchase tickets from metro counters before their return journey, a Metro Railway spokesperson said. This will save them time and avoid the hassle of standing in long queues at the counters upon returning from their destination station.

The first phase of the Metro 9 line, from Dahisar to Kashigaon in Mumbai, has received the final CRMS (Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety) certification. Therefore, there are no longer any obstacles to the operation of the first phase of this line. Significantly, the first phase of Metro 9 is expected to begin in February. With the final approval from the CRMS, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has cleared the way for the Metro's inauguration. Once an auspicious time is finalized, the first phase of Metro 2B, from Mandale to DN Nagar, will also begin operations alongside Metro 9.

The work will last for about 44 hours from 9 am on Tuesday (January 20) to Thursday (January 22). According to the BMC, water supply will be either reduced or completely stopped in parts of G North, K East, S, H East and N wards, and regular supply timings will also be changed.

Furthermore, MMRDA officials said that Metro 2B could take at least another month to be ready for the public.
