Purple Line History, Facts & Expansion

  • Mumbai Metro Line 13, also known as the Purple Line, is an important part of the Mumbai Metro Rail project.
  • The Purple Line connects Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road) to Virar, spanning about 23 kilometres.
  • The Purple Line has a total of 20 stations, which connects Mira Bhayandar to Virar.
  • It is being built in three phases over a period of 15 years, with completion expected in October 2026.
  • This ambitious project is jointly owned by the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra, which aims to provide a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) for the citizens of Mumbai.
  • The overall project aims to build a comprehensive metro network covering 337.1 km at an estimated cost of ₹21,40,814 crore, of which the current operational network is 11.4 km.

Mumbai Metro Line 13 (Purple Line) Extension

Line 13, connecting Shivaji Chowk on Mira Road to Virar, is 23 km long. The detailed project report (DPR) for Metro Line 13 has been prepared with an expected completion date of October 2026. This metro line will have 20 stations.
