Mumbai Metro Gold Line Overview
The Gold Line (Line 8) is a proposed airport metro linking Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with Navi Mumbai International Airport. The Maharashtra Cabinet approved the roughly 35 km corridor in January 2026 at an estimated cost of Rs 22,862 crore. It will have 20 stations, 14 elevated and 6 underground, and will be built under a public-private partnership model. Gold Line History, Facts & Expansion
- Line 8, the Gold Line, will connect CSMIA Terminal 2 in Mumbai with Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
- The corridor is about 35 km long, with roughly 9.25 km underground and the rest elevated.
- It will have 20 stations: 6 underground and 14 elevated.
- The Maharashtra government approved a PPP model for the line in January 2025.
- The Maharashtra Cabinet approved the project on 27 January 2026 at an estimated cost of Rs 22,862 crore.
- The state targets completion within about 3.5 to 5 years of the start of work.
- It will be the first direct metro link between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports.
- Six underground stations will be in Mumbai, from CSMIA T2 to Garodia Nagar area.
- Elevated stations will run from Baiganwadi through Navi Mumbai to NMIA.
- The line is planned to be implemented jointly by MMRDA and CIDCO.
- It is part of Phase III of the Mumbai Metro master plan.
