The wait for the Metro is finally over for the residents of South Kanpur. Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the service in June. Preparations for the Metro's extension from Kanpur Central to Naubasta are proceeding rapidly, with a successful trial run recently conducted at night at a speed of 80 km/h. Following an inspection by the CMRS in May, the inauguration by Prime Minister Modi is anticipated in June, which will provide much-needed relief from traffic congestion to the South Kanpur region.
The Kanpur Metro project made progress as the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) conducted a test run on Corridor 1 of the Kanpur Metro project, which stretches 23.785 km between IIT Kanpur and Naubasta and includes 21 stations. The UPMRCL successfully completed the first test run on the 'Up-Line' of Corridor 1 from Kanpur Central to Naubasta. The test was conducted in the presence of Mr. Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC. He also inspected the track, third rail, power supply, and signaling system of Line 1.

Kanpur Metro has achieved a significant milestone in the underground section of Corridor 1 (IIT to Naubasta). Construction of the "Up-Line" tunnel has been completed, connecting Kanpur Central to Naubasta via Jhankarkati and Transport Nagar stations and connecting the entire underground section. This underground corridor will make travel to Kanpur even more convenient.
