On Tuesday, a senior official of the Shipping Ministry said that the Kochi Water Metro model can be adopted in many other places like Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati and Goa. In a virtual meeting chaired by MoPSW Secretary TK Ramachandran, senior officials from around 30 states and union territories are coming together to deliberate on ensuring comprehensive development of maritime and waterway transport across India.

Inaugurating the Neelachal flyover at Maligaon here, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "If we want to lay the track at Silpukhuri, one terminal will be at Dighalipukhuri and the other at Chandmari." In such a situation, it is not possible to lay a metro line for short distance, but, this upcoming 6-lane highway connecting Baihata Chariali, Narangi, Kuruva via Jagiroad to Dispur will form a ring road. And after the completion of the ring work, the metro train will run over the ring. Metro trains will enter and exit Guwahati through the ring.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched a series of railway projects along with commissioning a plant of methanol and laying the foundation stone for a bridge over the Brahmaputra river during his visit to Guwahati on Friday.
