Red Line History, Facts & Expansion

The Miyapur-Ameerpet section opened on 29 November 2017 after being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the previous day.
The extension from Ameerpet to L.B. Nagar opened on 24 September 2018.
The line is about 29.2 km long with 27 stations, all elevated.
It interchanges with the Blue Line at Ameerpet and the Green Line at MG Bus Station (MGBS).
The system was built by L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd under one of the world's largest metro PPP projects.
On 29 April 2026, L&T agreed to transfer its entire stake to the state-owned Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited.
The system uses 3-coach trains built by Hyundai Rotem with CBTC signalling.
Hyderabad Metro was among the first metros in India to use CBTC signalling from the start.
Ameerpet is the largest interchange of the Hyderabad Metro.
Stations were designed with transit-oriented commercial spaces as part of the PPP model.

To reach Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from Hyderabad Metro Red Line, take the metro to Ameerpet station, switch to Blue Line towards Raidurg, and then take Pushpak Airport Shuttle from Raidurg Metro Station to the airport.

There is a proposal to extend the Red Line beyond LB Nagar towards Hayatnagar, but no official timeline has been confirmed.

To switch from Red Line of Hyderabad Metro to Green Line, you can go to MG Bus Station (MGBS), which is a major interchange station connecting both the lines.
