Delhi Metro Red Line Extension in Phase IV

The Union Cabinet on 06 December 2024 has approved the Rithala-Narela-Nathupur corridor of the fourth phase project of Delhi Metro. The corridor is to be completed in 4 years from the date of approval. Under this project, the Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda)-Rithala Red Line corridor will be extended. This 26.463 km long line will have 21 elevated stations, which will connect Rithala in Delhi to Nathupur. These mainly include Narela, Bawana, Rohini Sector and Kundli.

This will be the fourth extension of Delhi Metro in Haryana, which will connect to the existing routes of Gurugram, Ballabhgarh and Bahadurgarh.

The Delhi Metro Red Line operates between Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) and Rithala, with consistent timings throughout the week.

  • First Train: 06:00 AM (Shaheed Sthal to Rithala) | 06:00:02 AM (Rithala to Shaheed Sthal)

The Delhi Metro Red Line is connected to Indian Railways at Shahdara Metro Station, which provides access to Shahdara Railway Station.

There is no single-station interchange between the Red Line and the Blue Line. Passengers can use one of the following two-step routes depending on the desired destination:

  1. Via Yellow Line (central route):

    Take the Red Line to Kashmere Gate, change to the Yellow Line, travel to Rajiv Chowk, and then change to the Blue Line.

  2. Via Green Line (west route):

    Take the Red Line to Inderlok, change to the Green Line, travel to Kirti Nagar, and then change to the Blue Line.

  3. Via Pink Line (multiple options):

    Take the Red Line to Netaji Subhash Place or Welcome, change to the Pink Line, then transfer at an appropriate interchange (for example Rajouri Garden, Karkarduma, Anand Vihar, or Mayur Vihar Phase I) to reach the Blue Line station closest to the final destination.

Tip: Choose the route based on the final destination — Rajiv Chowk is best for central Delhi (Connaught Place), Kirti Nagar for western destinations, and the Pink Line options for eastern targets.

The Delhi Metro Red Line is connected to major bus terminals Kashmiri Gate ISBT and Ghaziabad New Bus Adda, providing access to inter-city and local bus services.

  • 2026-03-11 - The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Thursday informed that train services on the Magenta Line Extension between Majlis Park and Deepali Chowk Metro stations have been delayed due to a technical snag. The corporation further said that train services on all other Delhi Metro lines are running as per schedule. Sharing service related information on Line X, the DMRC wrote, "Service update. Train services on the Magenta Line Extension between Majlis Park and Deepali Chowk Metro stations are delayed due to a technical snag. Services on all other lines are normal."

  • 2026-03-08 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs 33,500 crore in the national capital. The Prime Minister inaugurated the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line. Following the launch, the Pink Line has been extended to 71.56 km and also means the completion of the country's first fully operational "ring metro" running around large parts of Delhi, officials had earlier told HT.

  • 2026-03-02 - In a special update for Holi celebrations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that metro train services will resume at a delayed timing from the usual on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. According to their official X handle, the metro will start operating from 2:30 pm from all terminal stations across all lines.

  • 2026-02-26 - Passengers travelling on Namo Bharat trains and Meerut Metro can now earn loyalty points on every trip by using the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) or by booking digital QR tickets through the Namo Bharat Connect mobile application. Under this loyalty programme operated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), passengers earn one loyalty point for every rupee spent on travel, with each point valued at 10 paise.

  • 2026-02-22 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (February 22, 2026) inaugurated the remaining sections of the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), including a 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 21-km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh. The RRTS has been integrated with Meerut Metro services, which were also launched. A unique feature of the project is the integration of Indian Railways, Metro and bus stands at Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad and Meerut.
