History of Delhi Metro Brown Line:
The Brown Line also known as Line 12 is an approved line of the Delhi Metro. It will connect Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block over a length of 7.96 km (4.95 mi). The line was approved by the Government of India and the foundation stone for its construction was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 March 2024. Construction is yet to begin as part of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro's development and the line is scheduled to be completed by March 2026.
Delhi Metro Brown Line Extension in Phase IV
The Brown Line has been approved by the Government of India and the foundation stone for its construction was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 March 2024 and work on it is yet to begin under Phase IV of Delhi Metro development.
The Brown Line, which is a new line in Phase IV, will start from Lajpat Nagar and connect to Saket G-Block. Construction work on this line began in 2024 and is expected to be completed by March 2026. Once operational, this line will add about 21 km to the Delhi Metro network with a total of 8 stations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has installed around 20 kilometres of barricades, along with 17 kilometres of blinkers and LED lights, at its construction sites in the city. The DMRC said that over 270 traffic marshals have been deployed at these locations to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles around the metro construction sites. Road studs have been installed to slow down traffic at sensitive traffic points near the construction sites. Warning signs indicating work in progress or an alternative route ahead have also been installed.

The early start is intended to facilitate the movement of people attending Republic Day celebrations on duty. The DMRC stated that trains on all lines will run at 15-minute intervals from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. After 6 a.m., metro services will operate as per the regular timetable for the rest of the day.

Officials said the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block corridor and the Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor have been placed under a single financial framework, with a total project cost of ₹8,399.81 crore. The Delhi government's contribution to this combined phase is ₹1,987.86 crore. Meanwhile, the estimated cost of the Rithala-Kundli corridor is approximately ₹6,230.99 crore. The Delhi government will provide ₹1,398.32 crore for this corridor. This extension will further enhance connectivity in the NCR and address transportation challenges in the capital.

DMRC has taken this decision to reduce waiting time and provide convenient travel options for daily commuters. The corporation is going to start this service at 10 metro stations located near major market centers - New Delhi, Nehru Place, Lajpat Nagar, Rajiv Chowk and Millennium City Centre.

About 800 metres of signalling cables were cut during the attempt in the midsection between the two stations, disrupting the signalling system, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. As a result, trains are being operated at a restricted speed of 25 kmph on the affected up line section towards New Delhi between Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium stations, DMRC said.
